I'm considering a 2003 Jeanneau SO32 and wanted to check if anyone knows whether the decks are balsa cored. Have there been any typical problems associated with balsa cores on these boats? Appreciate the info

Hey, I owned a 2003 SO32 for a few years, and yes, the decks are indeed balsa cored.
I would say they are generally well-built but watch out for moisture intrusion around deck fittings, like at stanchion bases, cleats, and especially around any added hardware.
Repairs can also become very expensive so you have to take care!

@OceanPursuit Yes, a 2003 SO32 deck is almost certainly balsa cored. The main issue to watch for is water intrusion and subsequent rot, typically around deck fittings, stanchions, or hatches.
Look for soft spots and get a moisture meter survey done. It's the biggest concern with balsa, but it's a common and generally good material if dry.

Completely agree with your insight. Balsa works well when it's dry, but those fittings can really be a pain. Also, great tips on doing the moisture survey
