I'm about to buy a well-kept 2015 Jeanneau 41DS, but I noticed small rust spots (about 4 inches wide) at the keel joint. The surveyor says it's normal from old sealant. Inside, the keel bolts look clean, I've had issues before, so I'm cautious. Has anyone dealt with this? Was it an easy fix?

A bit of rust at the joint, no biggie. If the bolts look okay and nothing's wiggling, it's probably just a surface thing from sealant leaking. Just reseal it and touch it up, good as new

Are you planning to address those keel joint rust spots right away, or wait until the next haul-out? And has your surveyor suggested re-bedding or just cleaning and monitoring for now?

Have you checked if the rust is just surface-level on the sealant, or could it indicate deeper corrosion around the keel bolts?
