Rudder stock corrosion on my SO349

I've noticed something odd with my SO349, when the boat's moored, the rudder stocks aren't even in the water, yet both are badly hit by crevice corrosion. I suspect it's because of an annular groove around the stock near the top of the rudder, right where the thrust bearing sits. That tight spot seems to be trapping moisture and causing the damage

The annular groove near the thrust bearing is definitely a corrosion hotspot. It traps moisture and creates an ideal environment for crevice corrosion, even if the rudder stocks aren't submerged, regularly inspecting it and targeted cleaning there can help slow it down.

I agree with @vain.sight there, it's a prime spot for corrosion. Have you tried sealing it or adding a drain path? Also are both rudders showing the same wear, or is one worse than the other?

Could that annular groove near the thrust bearing be creating a moisture trap, making it worse than normal crevice corrosion? Have you tried sealing or treating that area?

I'll focus on regularly inspecting that groove and doing targeted cleaning, do you have any tips for protecting or treating that area to slow the crevice corrosion?

I haven't tried sealing it yet, but that sounds like a good idea. Do you think adding a drain path would make a big difference? and yeah.. both rudders are showing similar corrosion.
